Canon has a very nice and large lineup of both point and shoot PowerShot cameras and Vixia camcorders. Canon will usually release new cameras to add to their lineup and replace existing models at CES 2012 and this year Canon has quite a few new cameras to add to their lineup. This blog posts covers most of Canon’s low end to mid range PowerShot and Vixia lineup of cameras and camcorders.
Canon announced the PowerShot Elph 520 HS and Elph 110 HS which will be affordable but powerful point and shoots. The new Elph 520 HS aims to replace the existing Elph 500 HS, the camera has 12x optical zoom with a 28mm lens and it’s all in an extremely slim body. The new 520 HS is powered by the brand new DIGIC 5 processor from Canon which really makes things faster. The camera will also have ISO of up to 3200, and a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor. The lower end 110 HS isn’t quite as great but it is still pretty good with 5x optical zoom, and a 16.1-megapixel sensor. Both cameras have a nice 3-inch LCD display and can shoot pictures at 6 frames per second. The 520 HS will cost $300 when it arrives in March and the 110 HS will cost $250 in February.
Both of those new PowerShot cameras can do 1080p video without any issue but they aren’t dedicated video cameras so they aren’t as great as Canon’s new Vixia camcorders. Canon announced the new M and R series Vixia camcorders. They also announced the new M52, M50, R32, and R30 which have built in WiFi so you can upload directly to services like YouTube and Facebook. They will also be able to shoot 1080p video and will zoom up to 51x. The price of these new camcorders range from $350 and $750 and they’ll all arrive in March.
