Samsung Announces The New Series 5 Chromebook, And The Chromebox

Samsung ChromeboxWe’ve seen various different Google Chromebooks running Chrome OS but none of them have really take off like Google expected. But Google and Samsung aren’t done working on Chrome OS and Chromebooks since at CES 2012 Samsung had a pair of new Chrome OS machines they announced and showed off.

First off Samsung refreshed their current Series 5 Chromebook which they released last year. Then Samsung announced the Chromebox which we have heard about before but now we have more information on this Chrome OS desktop computer.

The new Series 5 Chromebook has a 12.1-inch matte 300-nit display just like the previous Series 5 but instead of an Intel Atom processor the new Series 5 has a new dual core Intel Celeron processor , 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. So the new Series 5 which will arrive during the second quarter of this year for $400 for WiFi, or $450 for 3G should be able to run Chrome OS and all of the Chrome web apps just fine.

Overall the new Chromebox from Samsung is almost identical to the new Series 5 as far as the specs go but the design is a little different. Instead of a notebook computer it’s a computer with a Mac Mini sized form factor. The Chromebox will come with a wireless keyboard and mouse and the machine will have USB 2.0, DVI, DisplayPort, and headphone ports. The Chromebox is going to arrive during the second quarter of this year for $400.
