Carrier IQ was a big issue a couple of months ago since it was first discovered on the HTC Evo 3D and then it was discovered on pretty much every phone from every platform on every carrier. The Carrier IQ software allows both the carrier and the OEM to have access to pretty much everything you are doing on your smartphone from the texts you send, to the pictures you take.
Sprint announced last month that they planned to remove Carrier IQ from all of their phones. And it looks like Sprint plans to start removing Carrier IQ from phones this month. That’s because HTC confirmed that Sprint and HTC are working on releasing a software update for the Sprint phones starting with the HTC Evo 3D which was the phone which Carrier IQ was first discovered on. HTC and Sprint plan to start releasing the software update later this month.
So this is good news for all of those who are on Sprint since Sprint does actually use Carrier IQ data to help improve their network. Verizon has already said that they don’t use Carrier IQ data, and both AT&T and T-Mobile use Carrier IQ to help improve their network just like Sprint. So hopefully other carriers will release software updates that remove Carrier IQ.
