It has been said that smartphones just don’t last very long with current battery technology and that’s very true and is actually true for most consumer electronics today. Phones will last about a day, tablets will last for most of a day, computers will last for part of the day, and so on. You just can’t go a very long time without having to get a new battery or recharge the battery inside. But the issue might not be with the batteries it might just be the devices.
That’s because at CES 2012 a company called Xpal Power announced something called the SpareOne which is basically a tiny little cell phone, not even a smartphone that is powered by a single AA battery. And guess what, that single AA battery allows the SpareOne to last 15 years without needing to be replaced. Of course that is if the cell phone is being unused which is really what this cell phone is designed for, emergencies. The cell phone will be able to last about ten hours on a battery if you are making a really long call.
The SpareOne was designed for emergency and travel situations, it supports a flashlight, caller ID, and it can even transmit location data. So overall this is a pretty interesting phone. All you really need to do is pick up this phone when it arrives later this quarter for $50 and that’s completely off any contracts. Then you go ahead and insert a SIM card into the phone and you’ll be able to use it.
What are your thoughts on this?
