Apple recently decided to get rid of the white MacBook even for schools. Which in a way was telling schools that getting a bunch of iPads for students and using iBooks 2 is a better option. Although Apple isn’t done with the Mac quite yet since today they announced that they will be selling the MacBook Air to schools at a very low price.
Schools have already been able to purchase the 11-inch MacBook Air for $950 but when it comes down to it a lot of times an 11-inch computer is a little bit too small for some users. That’s where the larger 13-inch MacBook Air comes into place, it has a bigger display, better internals, and the larger keyboard making it overall more like the older white MacBook which Apple discontinued.
Apple will now be selling that 13-inch MacBook Air to schools in packs of five for $5000 or in other words each individual machine costs $1000 which is actually the same amount of money people pay to get the 11-inch MacBook Air. Inside the 13-inch Air you’ll get a 1.6GHz Core i5 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage so the specs aren’t all that amazing. But when it comes down to it most students don’t need an extremely fast computer to get school work done on.
