If you updated your Mac from a previous version of Mac OS X to Mac OS X Lion last year you might have remembered the process of having to wait a few hours while the operating system downloaded onto your system, and then another few hours for the operating system to install. Basically Apple really wanted you to purchase and download Lion through the Mac App Store and not use any sort of CD or DVD. However Apple still did offer a $70 USB installation stick which allowed you to install Lion through USB without needing to have an Internet connection.
Personally I like the idea of that USB stick especially if you have a lot of Macs that need updating and don’t want to spend several days downloading and installing the software on to each individual Mac. If you are like me and liked the idea of that USB stick it looks like you’ll be out of luck when it comes to upgrading to Mountain Lion this summer since Apple announced that Mountain Lion will only be available in the Mac App Store and there won’t be any sort of USB installation drive for sale.
Apple says their reasoning behind this is the fact that many people didn’t have any issues when it came to installing Lion through the Mac App Store. Even though Apple won’t be selling Mountain Lion installation USB drives chances are you’ll still be able to download Mountain Lion onto one of your Macs and make your own installation USB drive just like you could with Lion.
What are your thoughts on this?
